The Boy Who Sang to the World

As a young child I vividly remember reading an illustrated children’s book, The Boy Who Sang to the World.  A boy would stand in front of people, and sing their dreams true... — Tom Kenyon

The Boy Who Sang to the World:  Sound Journeys with Tom Kenyon

A documentary about one man’s quest to merge modern science, ancient mysticism and sacred sound to awaken humanity’s potential.

Our Vision:

Imagine a film about the mysteries of sound that has the power to transform audiences. A film that can blend science with spirit to inspire breakthroughs in consciousness.

That is the vision of The Boy Who Sang to the World.

Twenty years ago, Tom Kenyon was on his way to fame as a country singer in Nashville. But a car that burst into flames and intervention by a psychic led him to discover the power of his own voice to heal.

Since then, Tom has built a bridge across a complex divide, marrying spiritual traditions with modern science to become one of the most respected sound healers alive today.

  • Tom has spent years studying the effects of sound, music and language on the human brain and nervous system.
  • Unique among healers today, he draws upon this extensive research, his background in psychotherapy and shamanism to create sounds that heal conditions as daunting as cancer and paralysis.
  • His vocal range, nearly four octaves, is among the largest of any male singer in the world.

The film will immerse audiences in Tom’s healing and transformational soundscapes that blend esoteric spiritual traditions from around the world, including Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, Taoism, Egyptian high alchemy, and mystical Christianity. It will weave revealing personal interviews with exclusive footage of Tom’s sacred sound tonings filmed in beautiful international locations. Emphasizing Tom’s work on the return of the divine feminine, the film will be rich in the teachings that have attracted thousands of followers and students worldwide.

The Boy Who Sang to the World is the first time Tom’s amazing alchemical journey will be seen and heard onscreen—an entertaining and often humorous story of magical realism, cows in Samadhi and the promise of human potential in the 21st century.

The filmmakers

Ward Serrill is an award-winning director whose last feature (The Heart of the Game) was released by Disney/Miramax to wide critical acclaim. Ebert and Roeper called it “An Oscar level piece of work.”

Ward and his wife and co-producer Sophie, are working together to create this film. Their mission as filmmakers is to create films for the common good that help to transform consciousness. They have donated much of their time because they believe strongly in the importance of the work of Tom and his partner, Judi Sion.

Ward and Sophie are deeply grateful to the 250 people from over 15 countries who have contributed to the film. Of the $247,000 budget, $127,000 now needs to be raised.

How can you help?

Documentary films that set out to change consciousness don’t usually come out of Hollywood. They only get made thanks to the generous support of people who understand the need for films that are dedicated to the common good.

Due to the spiritual themes of the film, it is essential that we create a community of people who support the need to bring more healing messages and energies in our world.

A film = A community

Join us as we create a community of people who come together to make this important film and share Tom’s work with the world:

1. Make a pledge — we have great gifts to say thank you! (see column on the right)

2. Tell your friends about the project:

  • Email them.
  • Share it with them on Facebook.
  • Gather them together for a “Watch the Preview” healing gathering.
  • Sing about it from the rooftops!

How can you contact us?

Thanks for asking! We want to expand this community, and we’d love to talk with you, hear your comments and answer your questions. You can email us at info@woodycreekpictures.com.

Thanks for your support! Ward and Sophie

Tom has spent years studying the effects of sound, music and language on the human nervous system. He uses his unique ability to tune into spiritual frequencies to bridge the scientifc and metaphysical worlds with ease. His vocal range, nearly four octaves, may be the largest of any male singer in the world.

Without rehearsing or knowing what spiritual forces will work through him, together with partner Judi Sion, he leads people into deep transformations that blend esoteric spiritual traditions from around the world, including Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, Taoism, Egyptian high alchemy, and mystical Christianity.

Distribution Plan

This film will be produced as a major documentary feature designed for theatrical release in 2012 and later distribution through television and home DVD. Ward Serrill’s success in attracting a studio release in his last film should provide inroads into finding a studio partner for The Boy Who Sang to the World. We plan to unveil the film at the Toronto Film Festival and at Cannes Film Festival. Theatrical distribution will follow.

In the beginning…

In the beginning was. . . that is what I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. As I’m working my way through the footage we’ve shot of Tom Kenyon, a multitude of themes are arising as a backdrop to his incredible story of a musician, turned scientist-shaman-sound healer. There is the theme of the divine feminine and the presence of Mary Magdelen; there is sacred relationship; there is the marriage of science with mysticism; and there is sound.

As a filmmaker, I am always looking for the context that best holds a story, what is it in a film that is most universal to an audience? In an interview with Tom he talked about the fact that many of the major religious faiths talked of sound or vibration as fundamental to their story of creation (In the beginning was “the word”) or in their practices (Hindu mantras, Tibetan shamanic chants, etc.). And it got me to thinking that inside our mother’s womb it was vibration that spoke to us first. We heard a heartbeat. . .

It is sound that Tom primarily uses to express his incredible gifts. At retreats I see how we often close our eyes to listen and absorb deeply his transmissions. Is this deep listening a kind of second birth? A time inside the womb again, but this time inside of our own creation, not our mother’s? That is what I’d like the audience to discover. To have a transformative spiritual experience.

As we prepare for our upcoming exciting European filming expedition following Tom and Judi to a few events and sights in Germany, Austria, France and perhaps Switzerland, we will explore these ideas with them. We will look for ways to convey something that is invisible (sound) into a visual medium. It is a wonderful and difficult challenge. What is it the audience sees while we hear Tom’s tonings? What will allow us to make vibration visible? Ah, a great puzzle!—every filmmaker needs one!

The trip to Europe that begins May 1 is also a return to the place where this film had its birth, in Labadous in southern France. There, we will have come full circle and perhaps discover an ending of the film. It is after all in Labadous, after a toning session with Tom, that Sophie and I were mystically married. Who knows what might happen this time!

It is also a wonderful time for me to reflect on the amazing support so many have provided to make this film possible. Recently Sophie and I were wondering how we might honor all of you in a way beyond the cards and thank you messages. We decided to do a ritual. So we drove down to a remote beach on Vashon Island, where we live, near Seattle. A beach where Orcas swim by each summer, where ospreys live and salmon leap.

As we walked the beach we saw a great blue heron standing, tai chi still in the blue mirror of the afternoon sea. This symbol of grace and strength and stillness seemed the perfect sign for our ritual. We found a good beach log and picked up 72 stones, one for each of you who has contributed and as I chanted a Hindu mantra, Om Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu (“May all beings everywhere be happy and free from suffering.”) Sophie read out loud your name and I cast into the water a stone. Each stone sent out ripples in all directions, our gratitude to each of you.

And as the heron kept watch, the sun descended over the horizon and twilight began its way with the world, I watched these ripples extend over the water. I realized I was seeing vibration made visual.
